Someone who grew up with Sarah Palin writes a letter.

You can see it here...

Read it all--here's a bit; buy off the populace by impoverishing the state. Good Repub. she.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will
make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she
proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while
she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's
surplus, borrow for needs.

What a great letter! Everyone should read this. I hope she (the letter writer) gets interviewed by someone high profile because this is the kind of information that should hit the airwaves.

By the way, earlier when I wrote on Palin not opposing the pork bridge, I was mistaken about an important fact. The earmark allocation for the offending bridge was canceled by congress, but the funding for it was rolled over into Alaska's general infrastructure funding. That is, congress still gave Alaska the money, but did not specify that it had to be spent on that bridge! When Alaska had the money without the strings attached, of course they realized that the bridge would have been a total waste of money, so they scuttled it. That is hardly fighting pork. And Sarah Palin was being completely disingenuous when she described herself as having said to congress, "Thanks, but no thanks," for the money to build the bridge. SHE DID NOT TURN DOWN THE MONEY! Alaska, as usual, got a disturbingly disproportionate chunk of federal money because of the senior status of their congressional delegation.

So much for the fiscal conservative.

It is a good letter, but isn't it a bit of a tradition in Alaska to redistribute oil profits to the citizens of the state? I had a few aunts and uncles living up there in the 1960s/1970s and my whole life I've heard about how they got money from Big Oil on an annual basis. (So much for Republicans hating income redistribution . . . )

The key here, Quimby, is that Ms. Palin is distributing every penny. None for infrastructure. You know, streets and shit? She's buying her popularity at the expense of the state a couple of years out, when the bills will come due. Bad Governor.

Seems to be the tradition among Republicans, isn't it? They talk about being fiscally conservative because they cut income and avoid spending money (except on their corporate buddies)--until the bridges actually fall down or the sewer systems fail. Then they have to spend several times as much, and create a greater public disruption, than if they'd done the routine maintenance all along.
